Audiology

Audiology is a discipline and a university subject, which is situated in the classification of disciplines somewhat differently in different countries. In some countries, physicians (medical doctors) represent audiology, in another countries, physicists and/or engineers or speech pathologists (speech and language therapists).
International Society of Audiology (ISA) defines audiology in the following way: “Audiology deals with the knowledge, protection and rehabilitation of human hearing, inclusive of the effects of pharmacological and surgical measures, but exclusive of matters relating to the techniques of these measures.“
European Federation of Audiology Societies (EFAS) defines audiology as a “science of hearing and the alleviation of the effects of disorders of the auditory system”.
